behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her is=

of blood stanched. 45)

Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with
him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest th=
ou,
Who touched me? 46)
And
Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone =

when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling =
down
before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she

Ruler's Daughter Raised.
40) And it came to pass, that, =

could be healed of any,

his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spir=

which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not y=

given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) (

k at
our text!
Women’s Status
=
We have here two miracles interwoven, as they were in Matthew =
and
Mark—the raising of Jairus's daughter to life,=
and the cure of the woman th=
at
had an issue of blood, as he was going in a crowd =
to
Jairus's house.
=
Jarius a ruler o=
f the
synagogue made a public address on behalf of his daughter that was v=
ery
ill, and, lay a dying. This address was very humble and reverent.
Jairus, though a ruler, fell down at Jesus's feet, as owning him to =
be a
ruler above him.
Jews and Christians, throughout their history, have u=
sed
the story of Adam and Eve to justify second-class status for women.
Paul and other early Christians looked to the Adam and
Eve story to put the blame for the Fall on Eve and derived from that the
conclusion that women should not be allowed to hold positions of authority =
or
to teach.
The Bible has been reinterpreted to support the idea =
that
women are in every way th
The gospels often
mention Jesus speaking to women publicly and openly against the social norm=
s of
the time. From the beginning, Jewish women disciples, including Mary Magdal=
ene,
Joanna, and Susanna, had accompanied Jesus during his ministry and supported
him out of their private means (Luke
8:1-3).
The Body
The long account
about Jesus and a woman of Samaria, found in John
4:1–4 is highly significant for understanding Jesus in several
relationships: Samaritans, women, =
and
sinners. By talking openly with this woman Jesus crossed a number of barriers which normally=
would
have separated a Jewish teacher from such a person as this w=
oman
of Samaria.
The woman in our text:

Medical
problem with prolonged bleeding
v =
story
of the daughter of Jairus, whom Jesus raised from the dead.
Both women were, in a way,
dead.
v =
The
daughter of Jairus was physically dead.
v =
The
woman with issue of blood suffered for twelve years from her illness and fr=
om
being ritually unclean. She had been unable to live a normal life, and
therefore in a sense had been dead to herself and the people around her. Je=
sus
returned both of them to life.
The story occurs in on
Mark 5:24-34, Luke 8:43-48,
Matthew 9:20-22
Matthew’s coverage of the story is minimal. Mark and Luke give fuller
details.

She had endured this for twelve years.
v =
Strictly
speaking, she should not have been among other people.
v =
According
to the laws of ritual purity, she should have been at home during her menst=
rual
period, living quietly (see Leviticus
But the woman in this story
was not healthy. Her issue flow had lasted twelve years, so the purity laws had become an impossible burden for her. (Yet she was =
designed
and destined to Win)
As an “unclean” woman s=
he was
unwelcome in society (LEV
Everything and everyone she touched
became ceremonially unclean, so she would have been shunned by everyone, ev=
en
family.
Sexual relations would have been unclean, her bed and e=
ven
her husband would have been ceremonially unclean, so she probably would have
been divorced by her husband (DEU 24:1).
Worship i=
n the
synagogue would have been barred to her since she could not make atonement =
for
her blood flow (LEV
As an
“unclean” woman if she touched Jesus, under normal circumstance=
s,
she would make Him ceremonially “unclean.”
As a woma=
n she
was restricted from touching a man in public.

She
could not go out,
v=
=
she
could not touch members of her family,
v=
=
she
could not enjoy a normal life,
v=
=
and
she was constantly debilitated.
It is not surprising that she had used up all her money=
on
doctors, or that she was prepared to flout=
the Law when she heard that a wonder-worker called Jesus w=
as in
the street outside her house.
What would you do if you KNEW the answer to all your
problems was right outside your house??
She pushed her way through=
the
crowd, until she was close to Jesus.
=
Although
her body was designed to be able to take the issue that was happening to he=
r,
=
She
had a prolonged issue
Then she reached out and tou=
ched
the fringe on his shawl.
=
Matthew
mentions several times that Jesus’ clothing had the fringe which was =
part
of the required clothing for a devout Jew (see Numbers =
A shawl =
"And a woman who had been suffering from a
hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of
His (Jesus') cloak; for she was saying to herself, 'If I only touch His
garment, I will get well.' But Jesus turning and seeing her said, 'Daughter, take
courage; your faith has made you well.' At once the woman was made well.&qu=
ot;
Matthew 14:34-36 similarly records:<= o:p>
"When they had crossed over, they came to land at
Gennesaret. And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent word i=
nto
all that surrounding district and brought to Him all who were sick; and they
implored Him that they might just touch the fringe of His cloak; and as many as touched it were cured."

Christian interpreters have connected
these healings, that the New Testament records taking place through =
Jesus' tzitzit, with a prophecy in Malachi 4:2:

"But for you who fear =
My
name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings..."=
Fulfilled
by Jesus because the Hebrew word "corners", used in the Torah for=
the
place tzitzit are to be attached, literally means "wings."
Therefore, interpreters say, the suffering
woman and the others who were infirm found healing in Jesus' "wings&qu=
ot;.
Matthew 23:5 also records Jesus saying:
"But they do all their deeds to be noticed by me=
n;
for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the=
tassels of their garments."
1. edge, border, hem of a garment - But meaning 2 is also
possible for these passages, dependending on how strictly Jesus followed Mo=
saic
law, and also upon the way in which Tallit was understood by the authors and first readers of the=
gospels.
2. tassel, which the Israelite was obligated to wear on the four corners of=
his
outer garment, according to Numbers 15:38(F); Deuteronomy 22:1, Matt 23:5.<=
/span>

THE WOMAN IS CURED<=
/b>=
The woman felt an immediate transformation within her body, and knew that she was cured. At the same
moment, Jesus felt power go out from =
himself.
=

She
was willing to break social taboos.

Jesus
asked who touched me?
=
Peter
pointed out to him that he was so closely surrounded by people that he was
constantly being touched by them, but that was not what Jesus meant. =
=
The
woman was terrified,
=
she
had broken the purity laws
=
She
touched a
=
She
was ritually unclean
=
And by
her touching JESUS made him ritually unclean
=
Any person she had
touched in the crowd was also ritually unclean. Each of them would have to =
go
through a process of ritual cleansing which involved bathing, changing their
clothes and being alone until th
Due to the greatness of the
crowd, it took determination, a Godly assignment and designation and destination
by God!
She was determined and desperate!
=
Jesus wanted
the woman and the crowd to know that His garments had not caused her to be
healed, but the strength of her faith.
'My gr=
ace is
sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'"=
She HOPED in Jesus:
She was not intimidated by=
the
large, dangerous crowd.
She believed Jesus would h=
elp
her, even though she interrupted Him as He on His w=
ay to
heal the mortally ill daughter of Jairus, a synagogue leader and man of soc=
ial
prominence.
She reached out to Him:
a) “She came
up…” (Perhaps she had to force her way through the crowd after =
she
heard about Him?)
b) “She came up behi=
nd
Jesus…” (Perhaps she could only reach His back? Or was she
too shy to face Him?)
c) She “touched th
d) She touched Jesus’
cloak—“touch,” Greek, haptomai (hap-tom-ahee) mean=
s to
fasten onto or grab; so, she clung to His shimla, the large square c=
loth
that comprised His outer robe.
Closing
=
&n=
bsp;
This woman was designed and destined to win (to have the victory)
She knew she was declared
“unclean” yet she knew if she could only get “near him=
221;
she would be made whole!
The woman’s healing =
was
a demonstration of Jesus’ power and His deity, and the woman recogniz=
ed
this. In turn, Jesus recognized her saving faith and gifted her with total
healing—both in body and soul. Like the man blind from birth who came=
to
Jesus for healing and found both healing and redemption (JOHN 9:2-25) this
woman found all that her heart desired in Jesus.
Jesus sometimes allows circumstance=
s to
enter our lives that reduce us to desperation so that we will reach out for
Him.
Delayed does not mean
denied! While Jesus was on Hi=
s way
to the beckon call of the ruler Jarius, she stepped in, delayed him and
Jarius’ daughter died! =
When he arrived the hi=
red
mourners who were weeping and wailing, LAUGHED when Jesus asked why are you
weeping, she but sleeps!
Jesus had to clean hou=
se
and get rid of all the doubters and those who didn’t mean this Jarius
daughter or family any good, he got rid of them and KICKED THEM OUT OF THE
HOUSE!
Jesus did not go throu=
gh
the ritual cleansing process because remember he is now UNCLEAN for an uncl=
ean
woman just touched Him!
Jesus spoke to Jarius
daughter and said “Maiden Rise”

Jesus received her. Jesus did not heal all who t=

Him in the crowd.

Jesus
perceived her secret touch.

Jesus saved
her from her affliction and healed her body by His power through her FAITH!=

restored her social standing and made a public declaration that power had g=

out for healing

She
made public confession of her healing in the presence of all the people

made a public declaration of that she was healed
